Meet Zepher Thomas

A vintner of stories

Sometimes we long for fiction to take us to another world, not smother us in a rip-roaring tidal wave of grief, destruction and loss.

Mr. Zephyr knows this.

And he went out to discover how he could make a fantasy world that would live in your imagination, without scarring your soul.

Have you been looking for this? Zephyr’s substack regularly posts Family-friendly, faith-based fantasy; book reviews; gardening and the outdoors.

Here is a bit about him.

I’m Zephyr Thomas; author, reader, and gardener. I lived most of my life in southern Idaho, but recently packed up and moved to southern Indiana instead, where it’s a whole lot greener. My wife and I have been creating together since we met in high school, and after making two children we decided to focus on books as well. She illustrates what I write and everything works out.

The stories I write in our world are about regular people struggling against the outer darkness, and confronting various kinds and degrees of evil along the way. Some stories are set in another world where people may look very different, but the core of their experiences are the same.

Mr. Thomas’s writing mission.

It’s said that there are two major styles of writing; architects who plan everything out in great detail before starting, and gardeners who start with the seed of an idea and see what happens. As both a software architect and an actual gardener, I can see where these ideas can work well together. I think I’ve come up with a third writing style: the vintner, who seals up ideas in a barrel for 15 years and hopes they haven’t gotten moldy. The stories I write in our world are about regular people struggling against the outer darkness, and confronting various kinds and degrees of evil along the way. Some stories are set in another world where people may look very different, but the core of their experiences are the same. Their struggles are on a much smaller scale, dealing with the challenges of everyday life in a lush fantasy world, rather than an epic struggle against a world-ending threat. All of them are written with families in mind; safe for the littles to read while entertaining enough for the older kids and designed to be read aloud by the parents.
