The Lady of the Deep

Ok, today I have something a little different! Who is up for some poetry?

This is a poem written as a very obvious, never-mentioned metaphor. Also, whenever I take up a longer poem, it always ends up dark 😅 I have absolutely no idea why.

Enjoy!

The Lady of the Deep

Life of the desolate plain,

grave of ghost’s n’eer seen.

Tossing her dark hair to the wind,

flashing her blue eyes.

Bitter, soulless depths

hide her deepest secrets.

Ashes, bones, broken souls,

her darkest heart veils.

She sifts the earth through her fingers,

she carves sculptures out of stone.

Her faith face wins her favor,

but she is truly alone.

She sighs in the night,

her wild tears kiss

everything they touch

their salty stain remans.

She wears around her throat

a broken chain of sun.

At night, a widower- she creeps

with silk and diamonds stolen.

A calm may shield well,

the black depths deep inside.

A storm soon to break forth,

a savage, deathly fight.

Embracing as you fall,

your body, cold and still,

her thin, dark fingers tug,

at your breathless soul.

Be wary as she sleeps.

Do not fall to her charms.

Her graveyard she keeps,

her secrets, unharmed.

One night, she will learn,

the truth of what she seeks.

She searches for something-

-no one knows

The Lady of the Deep

  1. Very creative and ‘colorful’ – though ‘color-me-dark’ is a bit far from my taste. Great metaphor but I wish there were a few, say, mermaids and/or Nemo’s swimming about and helping lift the tone of the verse…..But send this to a fisherman or retired merchant marine and see what her or she has to say. Got your message yet just too somber and scary for my bones! Keep up you creative skills as you’ve clearly got something unique Grace.
